Ymetlo-P is a nasal decongestant solution containing Xylometazoline Hydrochloride 0.05% w/v, commonly used to relieve nasal congestion caused by colds, allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, or upper respiratory tract infections. Xylometazoline belongs to a class of medications called sympathomimetic agents. It works by narrowing the blood vessels in the nasal passages, leading to reduced swelling and easier breathing through the nose.This formulation is especially suited for children and is typically used under adult supervision. Relief usually begins within minutes and can last for up to 10 hours, making it effective for both daytime and nighttime congestion. It is often recommended for short-term use only, usually not exceeding 5 to 7 consecutive days. Overuse or prolonged use may lead to rebound congestion, a condition where nasal stuffiness worsens once the medication is stopped.
To use, the nose should be gently cleared, and a few drops are instilled into each nostril while the head is tilted slightly back. It is important to avoid contact of the dropper tip with the nostrils to maintain hygiene. Common side effects may include temporary nasal burning, dryness, sneezing, or irritation. Patients with heart conditions, high blood pressure, or thyroid disorders should use it only under medical supervision.
