Xlipod-CV is a powerful combination antibiotic containing Cefpodoxime Proxetil and Clavulanic Acid, used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. Cefpodoxime Proxetil is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that works by inhibiting the formation of the bacterial cell wall, which is crucial for bacterial survival. This action effectively kills the bacteria and stops the spread of infection.Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects Cefpodoxime from being broken down by beta-lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria. By neutralizing this resistance mechanism, Clavulanic Acid enhances the effectiveness of Cefpodoxime, allowing it to target and eliminate a broader spectrum of bacteria.
Xlipod-CV is commonly prescribed to treat infections of the respiratory tract (such as bronchitis, sinusitis, and pneumonia), urinary tract, skin and soft tissues, and ear and throat infections. It is generally taken orally, with or after food, to improve absorption and reduce stomach discomfort.
Patients are advised to complete the full course of Xlipod-CV even if symptoms improve early, to ensure complete eradication of the infection and prevent antibiotic resistance.
