XYLOMET contains Xylometazoline, a fast-acting nasal decongestant that provides quick and effective relief from nasal congestion caused by colds, allergies, sinusitis, or upper respiratory tract infections. It works by narrowing the small blood vessels in the nasal passages, which reduces swelling and clears the blocked nose, making breathing easier.Xylometazoline belongs to a class of medications known as sympathomimetic amines, which act on alpha-adrenergic receptors in the nasal blood vessels. By constricting these vessels, it reduces blood flow to the affected area, thereby relieving congestion, inflammation, and the sensation of a blocked nose. The effect usually begins within minutes and can last for several hours, offering temporary but effective symptomatic relief.
XYLOMET is suitable for both adults and children (in age-appropriate formulations) and is commonly used before bedtime to improve sleep quality during a cold or allergy episode. It is also used before nasal examinations or surgeries to ensure clear nasal passages.
