VEROmycin-500 contains Azithromycin 500 mg, a broad-spectrum macrolide antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, thereby stopping the growth and multiplication of bacteria and allowing the body to fight off the infection effectively.VEROmycin-500 is commonly prescribed for infections of the respiratory tract (such as bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis, and sinusitis), skin and soft tissue infections, ear infections, gastrointestinal infections, and certain sexually transmitted infections like chlamydia and gonorrhea. It is also used in some cases for urinary tract infections (UTIs) and enteric (intestinal) infections.
This antibiotic is typically taken once daily and is well absorbed when taken with or without food. It begins to work quickly, and many patients feel better within a few days. However, it is important to complete the full course of treatment as prescribed to ensure that the infection is fully eliminated and to prevent the development of antibiotic resistance.
Common side effects may include nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, or mild rash. In rare cases, more serious side effects such as allergic reactions, liver enzyme elevation, or heart rhythm disturbances (QT prolongation) may occur. Patients with pre-existing liver or heart conditions should use this medicine under strict medical supervision.
