VEROmycin-250 contains Azithromycin 250 mg, a widely used macrolide antibiotic that is effective in treating a variety of bacterial infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, thereby preventing the bacteria from growing and multiplying. This action helps stop the spread of infection and allows the body’s immune system to eliminate the bacteria.VEROmycin-250 is commonly prescribed for conditions such as throat infections (pharyngitis, tonsillitis), respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, pneumonia), skin and soft tissue infections, ear infections (otitis media), and certain sexually transmitted infections, including chlamydia. It may also be used in gastrointestinal infections caused by susceptible bacteria.
This formulation is usually taken once daily, with or without food, and it offers the convenience of short-course therapy, often just 3 to 5 days, due to its long half-life and sustained action in the body.
While effective and generally well tolerated, some patients may experience nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea, or mild rash. Rare but serious side effects may include allergic reactions, liver enzyme elevation, or changes in heart rhythm (QT prolongation). It’s important to complete the full course of therapy as prescribed, even if symptoms improve early, to prevent relapse or resistance. Always use VEROmycin-250 under medical guidance.
