VERDOcef contains Cefoprox 50 mg (Cefpodoxime proxetil) in dry syrup form and is an effective oral antibiotic used primarily in children to treat various bacterial infections. Cefpodoxime is a third-generation cephalosporin that works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, which leads to the breakdown and death of the bacteria.It is prescribed for a wide range of infections, including those of the lungs (such as pneumonia and bronchitis), ears (otitis media), urinary tract, abdomen, skin, bones and joints, blood, heart (endocarditis), and even serious infections like meningitis. It is commonly used in pediatric practice due to its efficacy and relatively mild side effect profile.
VERDOcef Dry Syrup is typically taken twice daily after reconstitution with water, and should be shaken well before each use. Even if symptoms begin to improve after a few doses, the full course must be completed to ensure the infection is completely eliminated and to avoid the development of antibiotic resistance.
Side effects are generally mild and may include diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, or skin rash. If your child experiences severe or persistent symptoms, consult the doctor immediately. Avoid combining with antacids or iron supplements close to dosing time, as they can interfere with absorption.
