VANzex (Injection) contains Ondansetron, a fast-acting antiemetic used to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting, especially those associated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or postoperative recovery. It belongs to a class of drugs known as 5-HT₃ receptor antagonists, which work by blocking the action of serotonin, a chemical messenger in the brain that triggers the vomiting reflex.This injectable form is particularly useful in acute care settings or when oral administration is not possible—such as in patients who are actively vomiting or recovering from surgery. It is commonly administered intravenously (IV) or intramuscularly (IM) under medical supervision, and it begins to act within minutes, providing rapid relief from nausea.
VANzex Injection is widely used in oncology centers to manage chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) and is also part of pre-anesthetic medication protocols to prevent postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV). It is often combined with corticosteroids or other antiemetics for enhanced efficacy during aggressive cancer treatments.
Though generally well tolerated, some patients may experience headache, dizziness, injection site reactions, or rarely, QT interval prolongation on ECG. It should be used cautiously in individuals with cardiac conditions, electrolyte imbalances, or hepatic impairment. Always administer under the supervision of a healthcare professional.
