Santusom-40 contains Esomeprazole 40mg, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to reduce the production of stomach acid. It is especially effective in treating conditions where excessive acid is present, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, a rare disorder characterized by high levels of stomach acid leading to multiple and severe peptic ulcers.Esomeprazole works by blocking the proton pumps in the stomach lining that produce acid. In Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, where acid secretion is abnormally high, Santusom-40 helps control symptoms such as abdominal pain, heartburn, acid reflux, and diarrhea. By significantly lowering acid levels, it also promotes the healing of ulcers and prevents serious complications like gastrointestinal bleeding, perforation, and scarring.
This medicine may also be prescribed for other acid-related disorders like gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, and gastric ulcers. It is typically taken once daily before meals, or as directed by a physician.
