Safycol-PB Eye/Ear Drops is a combination medicine used to treat bacterial infections of the eyes and ears. It contains three active ingredients: Polymyxin B Sulphate (5000 IU), Chloramphenicol (1.0% w/v), and Phenylmercuric Nitrate (0.001% w/v) as a preservative. This combination offers broad-spectrum antibacterial activity, effectively targeting and eliminating bacteria responsible for infections.Polymyxin B is an antibiotic that works by breaking down the bacterial cell wall, especially in Gram-negative bacteria, leading to cell death. Chloramphenicol inhibits protein synthesis in bacteria, preventing their growth and multiplication. The addition of Phenylmercuric Nitrate serves as a preservative to maintain the sterility of the solution throughout its usage.
Safycol-PB is commonly used to treat conditions such as bacterial conjunctivitis, keratitis, blepharitis, and ear infections.
