SUCRAC is a sugar-free, mint-flavoured oral suspension containing Sucralfate, a gastro-protective agent used for the treatment and management of gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers, and gastritis. Sucralfate acts locally in the gastrointestinal tract to form a protective barrier over ulcers and damaged mucosal areas. When it comes into contact with stomach acid, it forms a gel-like coating that adheres to the ulcer site, shielding it from further irritation caused by acid, bile salts, and digestive enzymes.This protective layer not only promotes healing by preventing further tissue damage but also stimulates the secretion of protective mucus and bicarbonate, which enhances the stomach's natural defenses. SUCRAC is particularly beneficial for patients with a history of peptic ulcer disease, acid reflux, or gastritis.
The sugar-free formulation makes it suitable for diabetic patients, and the refreshing mint flavour improves palatability, ensuring better compliance in long-term use. It is usually taken on an empty stomach, as directed by a physician—typically 30 minutes to 1 hour before meals and at bedtime.
SUCRAC is generally well tolerated, but mild side effects such as constipation or dry mouth may occur. It should be used as prescribed and not taken alongside other medications without proper spacing, as it may affect their absorption.
