SANTum-375 contains Sultamicillin Tosylate 375 mg, a potent oral antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. Sultamicillin is a double ester of two active agents: Ampicillin (a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic) and Sulbactam (a beta-lactamase inhibitor). This unique combination enhances the effectiveness of Ampicillin by protecting it from being broken down by beta-lactamase enzymes, which are produced by certain bacteria to resist antibiotic treatment.Once ingested, Sultamicillin is rapidly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and converted into Ampicillin and Sulbactam in the body. Ampicillin works by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls, which results in the death of susceptible bacteria. Sulbactam complements this action by inhibiting beta-lactamase enzymes, allowing Ampicillin to remain active even against resistant strains of bacteria.
SANTum-375 is commonly prescribed for infections of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, and soft tissues, as well as gynecological and abdominal infections. It offers broad antibacterial coverage, making it effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative organisms.
