Santuliv-300 contains Ursodeoxycholic Acid (UDCA) 300mg, a bile acid used for the treatment of certain liver and gallbladder conditions. It is commonly prescribed to dissolve cholesterol-rich gallstones in patients who do not require surgery and to manage chronic liver diseases such as Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) and other cholestatic liver disorders.UDCA works by reducing the production of cholesterol in the liver, decreasing its absorption from the intestines, and promoting its dissolution in bile. This helps to dissolve existing gallstones and prevent new ones from forming. It also improves bile flow, reducing the harmful effects of bile acid accumulation in liver cells, thus helping in conditions where bile flow is reduced or blocked.
Santuliv-300 is usually taken once or twice daily with meals, as directed by a physician. Long-term use is often necessary for chronic liver conditions or gallstone dissolution. Common side effects may include diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, nausea, and rash.
It is not suitable for patients with calcified gallstones, bile duct obstruction, or acute liver failure. Regular monitoring of liver function and ultrasound evaluations may be recommended during treatment.
