SAFYDOX-CV is a combination antibiotic containing Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 mg and Clavulanic Acid 125 mg, used for the treatment of respiratory tract infections and other bacterial infections. These infections can affect the sinuses, throat, airways, or lungs, leading to symptoms such as cough, fever, sore throat, nasal congestion, and breathing difficulty.Cefpodoxime Proxetil is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, effectively stopping the growth of bacteria and treating the infection. However, some bacteria produce enzymes called beta-lactamases that make them resistant to certain antibiotics, including cefpodoxime.
Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. It works by blocking these resistance-causing enzymes, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of Cefpodoxime against resistant strains of bacteria. This powerful combination ensures broader coverage and improved treatment outcomes, especially in infections that do not respond well to cefpodoxime alone.
SAFYDOX-CV is commonly used to treat sinusitis, pharyngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, and other complicated or chronic respiratory infections. It should be taken with food to improve absorption and reduce the risk of gastrointestinal upset.
Common side effects may include diarrhea, nausea, abdominal discomfort, or skin rash. The medicine should be taken as prescribed, and the full course should be completed to prevent relapse or resistance. Always use under medical supervision.
