PERsyn-Cream is a topical anti-parasitic medication used in the treatment of scabies, a skin infestation caused by microscopic mites that burrow into the skin, triggering intense itching, redness, and irritation. The active ingredient in PERsyn-Cream is Permethrin 5%, a synthetic pyrethroid known for its potent insecticidal properties. It works by paralyzing and killing the mites and their eggs, effectively breaking the cycle of infestation.To use PERsyn-Cream, it should be applied evenly to the entire body surface from the neck down. The cream must remain on the skin for 8 to 12 hours, typically overnight, and then washed off thoroughly. While one application is often sufficient for full treatment, a second application may sometimes be necessary after 7 days, depending on the severity of the infestation or reinfection risks.
Although the mites may be eliminated, itching can persist for a few weeks due to allergic reactions to dead mites and their waste. This is normal and does not mean the treatment failed. Side effects are generally mild and may include temporary skin irritation or a slight burning sensation. Maintaining good hygiene, washing clothes and bedding in hot water, and treating close contacts are crucial steps to prevent reinfestation.
