Osani-SM is a powerful combination medication containing Ofloxacin (50mg), Metronidazole Benzoate (equivalent to Metronidazole 120mg), and Simethicone (10mg). It is primarily used to treat gastrointestinal infections that lead to diarrhea, especially those caused by mixed bacterial and protozoal organisms. Ofloxacin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA replication, effectively killing bacteria responsible for infections. Metronidazole is an antiprotozoal and antibacterial agent that works by damaging the DNA of microorganisms, thereby stopping their growth and eliminating them from the body.Together, Ofloxacin and Metronidazole provide a synergistic effect to cover a wide range of infectious agents, making Osani-SM suitable for treating acute and chronic diarrhea, dysentery, and gastrointestinal infections of mixed origin. The addition of Simethicone, an anti-foaming agent, helps in relieving symptoms such as bloating, abdominal discomfort, and flatulence by breaking up gas bubbles in the stomach and intestines, promoting easier passage of gas and improving overall comfort.
