Omitide-50 contains Octreotide 50 mcg/mL, a synthetic version of somatostatin, a natural hormone that inhibits several physiological functions in the body. Octreotide is primarily used to treat acromegaly (a condition where the body produces too much growth hormone), certain hormone-secreting tumors of the gastrointestinal tract (such as carcinoid tumors and VIPomas), and to manage severe diarrhea and flushing associated with these tumors.Octreotide works by mimicking the action of somatostatin, thereby reducing the secretion of various hormones and chemicals such as growth hormone, serotonin, and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1). This helps in controlling hormone-related symptoms, shrinking tumors, and stabilizing disease progression.
