OFET-R is a combination medicine containing Ofloxacin, Ornidazole, and Racecadotril, used primarily in the treatment of acute diarrhea, especially when it's associated with bacterial and parasitic infections.Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that works by inhibiting the bacterial enzymes required for DNA replication and cell division. This helps stop the growth of infection-causing bacteria.
Ornidazole is an antimicrobial agent that kills anaerobic bacteria and certain protozoa by damaging their DNA, making it effective in eliminating pathogens responsible for gastrointestinal infections.
Racecadotril is an anti-secretory agent. It helps reduce excessive fluid and electrolyte loss from the intestines, thereby decreasing the frequency and volume of stools. Unlike other antidiarrheals, it does not interfere with normal intestinal motility.
This triple-action formulation ensures comprehensive management of diarrhea by not only eliminating the root infectious cause but also controlling fluid loss to prevent dehydration.
OFET-R is generally well tolerated but may cause side effects like nausea, dizziness, headache, or abdominal cramps.
