MOXtive-CLAV is a combination antibiotic containing Amoxycillin and Clavulanic Acid, used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. This combination is especially effective against infections caused by bacteria that produce beta-lactamase enzymes, which can otherwise make standard antibiotics less effective.Amoxycillin is a broad-spectrum penicillin-type antibiotic that works by inhibiting the formation of the bacterial cell wall, ultimately leading to the death of the bacteria. However, some bacteria can produce an enzyme called beta-lactamase that breaks down amoxycillin and renders it ineffective.
To overcome this, Clavulanic Acid is included. It is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that blocks these resistance-causing enzymes, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of Amoxycillin. This makes the combination highly potent against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including those that are resistant to amoxycillin alone.
MOXtive-CLAV is commonly used to treat infections of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, soft tissues, ear, nose, throat, and even dental infections. It should be taken as prescribed by your doctor, usually after food to reduce stomach upset. Complete the full course to prevent resistance, even if symptoms improve early. Possible side effects may include diarrhea, nausea, or rash.
