IDEzovir 5% is a topical antiviral cream containing Acyclovir, used for the treatment of herpes simplex virus infections, particularly genital herpes and herpes labialis (cold sores) affecting the lips, face, and surrounding skin. It works by interfering with the virus's ability to reproduce, thereby helping to reduce the severity, duration, and spread of the infection.This cream is most effective when applied at the earliest sign of an outbreak, such as tingling, redness, or the appearance of small blisters. Early use can prevent the progression of symptoms and speed up the healing process. While it does not cure herpes infections, IDEzovir 5% helps reduce pain, itching, burning, and discomfort, and promotes faster crusting and healing of sores.
IDEzovir 5% should be applied thinly to the affected area five times a day at approximately four-hour intervals, as directed by a healthcare provider. Hands should be washed before and after applying the cream to avoid spreading the virus to other parts of the body or other people. Side effects are generally mild and may include temporary burning, stinging, or redness at the application site. Regular and early use improves symptom relief and reduces the risk of transmission.
