HIStar-8 is a low-dose formulation of Betahistine, a medication used in the prevention and treatment of Ménière’s disease, a chronic inner ear disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of vertigo (a spinning sensation), tinnitus (ringing in the ears), hearing loss, and a feeling of fullness or pressure in the ear. This condition is typically caused by abnormal fluid build-up in the inner ear, leading to disruptions in balance and hearing.Betahistine in HIStar-8 works by improving microcirculation in the inner ear and reducing pressure caused by excess fluid. It achieves this by acting as a histamine H1 receptor agonist and H3 receptor antagonist, leading to dilation of blood vessels in the inner ear and enhanced drainage of fluid from the labyrinth. This helps reduce the severity and frequency of vertigo attacks and may also help alleviate other symptoms such as tinnitus and hearing disturbances.
HIStar-8 is usually prescribed in milder cases or as an initial dose in individuals sensitive to higher strengths.
