HIStar-16 is primarily used in the treatment of Meniere’s disease, a condition of the inner ear that can cause episodes of vertigo (a spinning sensation), tinnitus (ringing in the ears), hearing loss, and a feeling of fullness in the ear. The active ingredient, Betahistine, is a histamine analogue that works by improving blood flow in the inner ear, which helps to reduce the pressure buildup that contributes to the symptoms of Meniere’s disease.Betahistine in HIStar-16 acts by dilating the blood vessels in the inner ear and affecting histamine receptors. This leads to better regulation of fluid and pressure inside the labyrinth (a complex system in the inner ear), thereby reducing both the frequency and intensity of vertigo attacks. It also improves hearing and reduces ringing or buzzing sensations in the ears over time.
HIStar-16 is usually taken orally and may be prescribed for daily use over a prolonged period depending on the patient’s condition and response to therapy. It is generally well tolerated, with side effects like mild nausea, headache, or stomach upset occurring infrequently. HIStar-16 is not meant for immediate relief of vertigo attacks but is highly effective for long-term management and prevention of symptoms associated with Meniere’s disease.
