DOMOL contains Rabeprazole Sodium 20 mg, a potent proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that effectively reduces stomach acid production. It is primarily used in the treatment of acid-related gastrointestinal disorders, including Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome, a rare condition characterized by excessive acid secretion that leads to multiple, recurring peptic ulcers.In Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome, tumors (gastrinomas) in the pancreas or duodenum produce high levels of gastrin, which overstimulates acid production in the stomach. This can cause severe abdominal pain, persistent heartburn, diarrhea, acid reflux, and potentially serious complications like gastrointestinal bleeding and perforated ulcers.
Rabeprazole in DOMOL works by irreversibly inhibiting the proton pumps (H⁺/K⁺-ATPase enzymes) in the stomach lining, thereby blocking the final step in acid production. This action reduces acidity, allowing ulcers to heal and symptoms to subside. It also helps in preventing further ulcer formation and protecting the gastrointestinal tract from further damage.
DOMOL is usually taken once daily, preferably before meals, as prescribed by a physician. It provides long-lasting acid suppression with a favorable safety profile. While generally well tolerated, possible side effects include headache, nausea, abdominal discomfort, and, with long-term use, potential vitamin B12 deficiency or low magnesium levels. Regular medical follow-up is recommended during prolonged therapy.
