AFYmox-CLAV Oral Suspension contains Amoxicillin 200 mg and Potassium Clavulanate 28.5 mg per 5 mL. It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic formulation designed to treat a wide range of bacterial infections in children and adults. This combination belongs to the penicillin group of antibiotics and is commonly used to manage respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, middle ear infections (otitis media), sinusitis, and dental infections.Amoxicillin works by inhibiting the formation of bacterial cell walls, ultimately killing the bacteria. However, some bacteria can produce enzymes (beta-lactamases) that deactivate amoxicillin. Potassium Clavulanate, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, prevents the destruction of amoxicillin by these resistant bacteria, thus extending the antibiotic’s effectiveness.
AFYmox-CLAV is especially effective in treating infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing organisms that are otherwise resistant to amoxicillin alone. The suspension form makes it easier to administer to children, ensuring accurate dosing and better compliance.
It is important to complete the full course of this medication as prescribed by the physician, even if symptoms improve early, to prevent reinfection or antibiotic resistance. The suspension should be shaken well before use and stored as directed, typically in a refrigerator, once reconstituted. Always use the dosing syringe or spoon provided to ensure the correct dose.
