ADPAX-FORTE is a potent antibiotic formulation containing Amoxycillin (400 mg) and Clavulanic Acid (57 mg), specifically designed to combat bacterial infections, including multidrug-resistant (MDR) tuberculosis when used as part of combination therapy. In MDR-TB, the causative bacteria often develop resistance by producing an enzyme called beta-lactamase, which deactivates many commonly used antibiotics like Amoxycillin.Amoxycillin is a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic that works by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, ultimately leading to bacterial death. However, in the presence of beta-lactamase, its effectiveness is reduced. This is where Clavulanic Acid plays a crucial role. It acts as a beta-lactamase inhibitor, binding to the enzyme and preventing it from breaking down Amoxycillin. As a result, Amoxycillin is able to reach and eliminate the resistant bacteria, including certain strains involved in MDR-TB.
ADPAX-FORTE is commonly prescribed not only for tuberculosis but also for a range of severe bacterial infections involving the respiratory tract, urinary system, skin, and bones. It is available in a dry syrup form, making it ideal for pediatric use. The formulation should be administered under strict medical supervision, especially in TB treatment protocols, and the full course must be completed to ensure resistance is not further developed.
